The fine print (made simple)

With three day-care centres, we offer employees at our Düsseldorf location in-house childcare options, further supporting the compatibility of work and family life. The nurseries “TuB Zwerge”, “Kleiner Elefant” and “Hans im Glück” offer dedicated support programmes as well as longer opening hours than is typically the case for public day-care centres.

Demographic change in the labour market and the increase in the statutory retirement age present new challenges for society and for companies. HSBC Germany has therefore introduced lifetime working time accounts, giving employees the option to pay remuneration into their personal account via salary conversion.

This account gives employees flexible future planning – supporting early retirement, caring or childcare breaks, with full or partial salary continuation where applicable.

HSBC Germany enables employees to take a break from work for a period of three to six months, allowing them to pursue activities outside their usual working environment during this “time off” and then return to active employment. A sabbatical can be used for personal plans such as extended travel, learning a language, volunteering, caring for relatives, childcare, or professional development. HSBC Germany offers various models (including lifetime working time accounts and part-time arrangements) to make sabbaticals financially feasible. A special feature is that, under each of these models, fixed remuneration continues to be paid in full for one month of the sabbatical despite the leave of absence.

We offer various working time models to help employees better balance work and family life, and to support a healthy balance between professional and personal life. Individual solutions range from reduced full-time hours and flexible working hours through to working from home.

pme Familienservice GmbH is an independent, nationwide service in Germany that helps employees balance work and family – supporting childcare solutions, eldercare, and offering advice on parenting, relationships, finances and health, including help in emergencies. As part of our Diversity & Inclusion commitment, we support employees in balancing work and family by providing free access to these advisory and placement services.

The service is completely anonymous and gives confidential advice and assistance relating to family support, crisis support and addiction.

HSBC Germany is a member of BVV Versorgungskasse des Bankgewerbes e.V. and BVV Versicherungsverein des Bankgewerbes a. G (“BVV”). In accordance with the BVV statutes and insurance terms and conditions in their current version, we are obliged to register our employees for membership in one of the two pension institutions. The employee’s share of the statutory contribution is deducted by the bank – as contractually agreed – from monthly pay and paid over together with the employer’s contribution. In addition to the standard provision, employees can arrange additional salary conversion with the BVV pension fund of up to 4% of the contribution assessment ceiling for statutory pension insurance. The salary conversion agreement is intended to make use of the option for occupational pension provision via salary conversion granted under the German Occupational Pensions Act (BetrAVG).

HSBC Germany provides employees with new, attractive employee benefits and offers every month.

To enable employees to commute between home and the workplace cost-effectively using public transport, HSBC Germany provides every employee working in Düsseldorf with a company travel ticket for local public transport, 2nd class (no ICE, no IC), on discounted terms.

Since 2016, HSBC Germany has partnered with TÜV Rheinland to keep occupational health practical, proactive and easy to access. Each year we run two Health Days with on-site advice and check-ups – covering everything from infection prevention and ergonomics to key health screenings (e.g. blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol) and lung function tests.

Beyond these events, our occupational physician supports the bank and its subsidiaries year-round – helping us meet our duty of care through workplace assessments under the German Occupational Safety and Health Act, occupational health screenings, vaccination guidance and more.

High-quality service starts with high-quality development. That’s why we tailor learning to individual needs, based on a thorough upfront analysis, and work exclusively with selected, qualified trainers. HSBC Germany places particular emphasis on leaders through tailored development programmes and coaching. We also invest in further education, including part-time Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, selected professional qualifications, as well as IT and language training.

Additionally, you are always more than welcome to use our online self-study courses at HSBC University.
